A tick is not evidence

A tick in a box is not evidence.

Every compliance spreadsheet ever written will accept one anyway. That is the whole problem with them.

Wouldn't it be great if you could:

— Stop an item being marked done until the evidence is actually attached

— Have the system name what is missing, rather than you finding out later

— Make it impossible to quietly tick through a phase

Here is a true story from building this software.

While setting up a demonstration project, we marked the Construction Phase Plan item as Complete. We had not attached the plan.

The system refused to accept it. It flagged the item on the dashboard as not actually done — because in PC Site Manager, status and evidence are two separate things, and an item is only finished when both are there.

That is deliberate, and it is occasionally annoying. It is also the point.

A "Complete" that means nothing is worse than no system at all. It tells you that you are covered on the one day you most need to be right.
