Drawing Markup Software for Construction: Introducing Clarity Markup

Reviewing construction drawings still tends to end at a printer. A drawing is marked up in red pen, photographed or scanned, emailed on, and by the third revision nobody is quite sure which set of comments is current.

Clarity Markup is a web app we have built to take that loop off paper. It installs to your desktop straight from the browser on Windows, macOS, iPad and Android, and your drawings stay on your own machine. It opens drawings, photographs and PDFs, and puts proper review markup straight onto them.

What it does

  • Revision clouds that carry their note. Cloud the change and type what changed in one action, so the note travels with the cloud instead of sitting in a separate email.
  • Real dimensions. Calibrate once against a known length on the drawing and every dimension you draw afterwards reads out in millimetres or metres. Or switch measuring off and type your own figures.
  • Numbered comments with a schedule. Drop numbered pins, write the comment against each one, mark them open or closed, then export the whole list as a comment schedule to send back to the design team.
  • Zones, callouts and stamps. Shade areas in transparent red, green, blue or orange. Add leader callouts. Apply approval stamps carrying your name and the date.
  • Markup that stays editable. Save the job and every annotation can be moved, re-worded or deleted later — it is not burned into a flat image. Export a flattened PNG, JPEG or PDF when you are ready to issue it.

Why editable markup matters

Most annotation tools flatten your comments into the image the moment you save. That is fine until a drawing comes back at revision C and half your comments still apply. Clarity Markup keeps every cloud, dimension and comment as a separate object, so you can carry the ones that still stand onto the new drawing rather than redrawing them.

Try it on a real drawing

It is free for seven days, and no card is needed to start. Start a free trial from your Clarity account, open one of your own drawings, and see whether it saves you time on a real review rather than a demo.

Start the free trial

After the trial it is £12 a month per user, or £120 a year. Prices include VAT. Every price is on the Clarity Markup page.

What it runs on

Nothing to download and nothing to sign: it runs from the browser and installs to the desktop from there.

Clarity Markup is part of the Clarity toolset from CDM Clarity — practical software for engineers, architects and construction professionals.
